WANTED; White Knight, high risk, no pay, high job satisfaction,
little to no supervision, satisfactory performance essential.
A white knight is needed to end global warming. It could be a
single person, a group of people, a corporation, a foundation,
a religious body or whoever, or any combination of such.
It is clear that if the world ran on nuclear energy and biofuels
the production of greenhouse gasses would effectively cease. Simple
arithmetic shows that improving the organic matter content of
the world's agricultural soils would sequester sufficient carbon
dioxide out of the air to return the atmosphere to normal. The
simple basic straightforward financial costs of such changes are
near zero.
We cannot end global warming while still retaining our dependence
on fossil fuels for energy. We cannot return greenhouse gas levels
to normal while continuing to structure food production on agrochemicals.
Those industries and their raw material suppliers must be put
out of business. And of course their own public relations and
lobbying organizations are commissioned just to stop that happening.
Thus ending global warming has to be recognized as a public relations
battle or PR war. It is not at all a technical problem.
A White Knight would have to be financially secure and invulnerable
to the political and industrial influence of the oil and the other
fossil fuel industries. And be prepared to do battle to defend
millions of unknown people, often in unknown lands. The White
Knight could lose a lot personally. They would need to know at
least a little about the PR industry and know how such things
are handled.
In moderately affluent societies there is now an undercurrent
of serious concern about a global warming future. People are also
getting sick of clichés and platitudes. They are sick of
environmental movements pursuing a myriad of minor and inconsequential
issues, all notably unrelated to looming irreversible global warming.
They want sensible, practical and believable answers on the biggest
and most long-term threat ever, to human security.
A necessary campaign to change public opinion about rain forests,
and about nuclear energy and chemical based agriculture, will
cost a minimum of possibly $10 million but possibly in excess
of $100 million. But others would have better knowledge about
such costings than I.
Sir Richard Branson couldn't end global warming. His PR is excellent
but his airlines are too vulnerable to too many varieties of economic
attack. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger probably could. Danny DeVito,
or somebody in that somewhat exclusive category possibly could,
and maybe even by themselves.
It is not a task for everybody. But what it has to be for everybody,
is the shining light at the end of the tunnel.
Is this for you? Think about it.
